T-Mobile Devices without VoLTE

Beginning June 16, 2021, all device activations on the T-Mobile network will require a VoLTE and LTE capable device. Effective August 10, 2021, any voice-capable devices without VoLTE emergency calling (V911) capability will no longer be able to connect to the T-Mobile network, as described in more detail below.

Effective August 10, 2021 devices without VoLTE emergency calling (V911) capability that attempt to activate on the T-Mobile network will not connect to the T-Mobile network.

This means these devices will show as active for service but they will not connect to the T-Mobile network. Although service on the T-Mobile network will not be available, if you enable roaming services, these devices may be able to connect to roaming and will be able to make 911 calls, to the extent required by applicable law and regulation.  You should complete a Query Device API check to determine if a device is compatible prior to activating it on the T-Mobile network. Only those devices that return “Yes” for the 3 Device Group/Specification field combinations listed below will be able to connect to the T-Mobile network beginning August 10, 2021. On that date, the “Network Compatibility” field will also be updated to only return “Yes” if a Device also meets the criteria for the 3 Device Group/Specification field combinations listed below.

The VoLTE emergency calling (V911) capability requirement described above will not be retroactively applied to devices that were activated prior to August 10, 2021. We encourage you to contact your Operations Manager or Business Development Manager if you have questions.
